Buzzer Reaction Los Angeles Clippers 100 Final Recap | Box score 110 Denver Nuggets It would have been easy for this team to expect to lose, knowing the perils of playing 5,280 feet above sea level. The Clippers could have played hard for a half, then checked out as they prepared for their brief break. And while they still lost, they never hung their heads or even thought of an early surrender. They carried on the good fight until the final buzzer. A true title contender is a team that doesn’t rest on its laurels. Never content with its current lot, the team always strives to improve in every area, from strategy to attitude. So while the wins are nice, and the boosts in confidence and seeding it provides certainly are boons, it doesn’t mean the Clippers are done getting better. “Streaks are great, but you could win 25 in a row and still be out in the first round of the playoffs,” Griffin said. “We didn’t even talk about the streak or think about it. It wasn’t a big thing. The biggest thing is how we’re playing, and I think it was a sign of maturity.” - Jordan White, for the Daily Dime Tweet(s) Of The Game Live tweet, why not. #ClipperNation — Jamal Crawford (@JCrossover) March 18, 2014 Denver always wants to push the pace when playing at home. Then, why does Blake Griffin get into so many scuffles? How good is this team? What else do they need to do? Do the Warriors want the Clippers in the playoffs? Check Your Messages Are These Wins Worth It? In a perfect world, the Clippers would finish their final 13 regular season games strong, holding the best record in the Western Conference and a healthy team. They’ll inevitably end up somewhere in-between, with J.J. Redick’s status up in the air and the Spurs possibly out of reach. For a team that has battled with injuries during the playoffs in the past two years, the Clippers should advocate health as a top priority. To an extent, the Clippers gets that–that’s why Jamal Crawford is currently sitting out and why they’ve have added so much depth in recent weeks. And yet, a recovering Chris Paul was out on the court for 39 minutes tonight and each time he hit the deck, Clipper faithful collectively held their breath. Tonight, the Clippers achieved neither of their “perfect world” goals. The risk of reaching both of may be mutually exclusive. Reining in a full effort to maintain their winning streak could have felt like a disservice to viewers, but it’d be in light of a larger goal: Retaining every last ounce of the Point God come playoff time. - Davis Vo A Twitter 4-point play My eyes were locked on Jamal Crawford’s Twitter timeline, still out with his calf injury, who took to live-tweeting the game from home. Yes, it was every bit as awesome as it sounds. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if Crawford takes an analyst position in a studio or as an announcer once he retires. Outside of his exclamatory tweets, Crawford said smart things all around, making for a fun stream of tweets to follow throughout the contest. If there was ever a bright spot in relation to his being out of the rotation, it was this. - David Vertsberger Out of Gas Sometimes, it’s just not your night. It shouldn’t be a huge surprise that the Clippers couldn’t finish out the second night of a back-to-back in Denver. Energy is a skill, and the Clippers were overmatched. One matchup that the Nuggets exploited in particular was J.J. Hickson and Glen Davis. In the first half, Denver caught Davis on Hickson out on the perimeter. Hickson had just set a screen for Aaron Brooks, who passed to Evan Fournier above the right break. This allowed Hickson to cut all the way around, take a lob and finish long before Davis could recover from showing on the screen. In the second half, Randy Foye stepped in front of a Chris Paul pass to the sideline and a footrace commenced between Hickson and Davis. Hickson simply outraced Big Baby, converting a layup while drawing a foul on Davis. Hickson finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds off the bench — the entire Clippers bench produced only 20 points and 10 rebounds. Davis only lasted 17 minutes, accumulating four fouls. A weird matchup for him, but tonight, it was a losing one. - Lawrence Murray Nobody puts Baby in the corner Late in the first half, Big Baby and Griffin were backpedaling off a made field goal. […]
